People often make the mistake of trying to restore their own credit not knowing what will or won't hurt them in the process.

Many have paid someone thousands of dollars to "repair" their credit and after time finding nothing was accomplished, yet now they cannot locate the person, to obtain a refund.

Others have charge a monthly fee promising to repair your credit, yet they didn't tell you that it would take years and that you are responsible to pay the monthly fee as long as you are in the program.

It is unfortunate that the lack of knowledge and understanding concerning the credit system keeps individuals and families in the bondages of debt and bad credit.

Many say, "I have been working on my own credit profile and have paid on the Collections and Charge-offs, but they still remain.  Why?"

Answer:  Since you paid them before disputing them, you have lessened your chances to restore your credit to a positive status.  You could have possibly had those items removed by technicality before paying them.  There are strategies utilized to remove the item reporting before it is paid, but it must be negotiated for settlement or the account may reappear under a new debt collector's name, with additional fees owed.

Note:  Once you pay an account, or make a payment, you have created a new activity.  This will cause that account to continue reporting for an additional 7 years along with the negative past history.

If you advise the reporting agencies you have paid by settlement or negotiation that is what they will report.  Many lack knowledge regarding credit, ethical restoration procedures, credit reporting & debt collection practices, the laws and their rights.

If an item is owed and not reporting, it does not mean you don't owe it, it simply means under that creditor's name, it cannot be re-reported.
For this reason many Creditors sell the debt to a debt collector (or an attorney) who can then report the item and seek to recover.
